Join us for our first PPSCV Photo Safari of 2021
This trip is a
self-guided hike to the High Peaks Trail of Pinnacles National Park to see the American Condors that are often present in the afternoons soaring on thermals spotting their prey.
Self-guided means that you are responsible for yourself, though we expect to hike as a happy group.
Note, these are wild animals and may have other plans, in which case we'll enjoy a hike in an underrated National Park.
It's not for the faint-hearted, and hiking experience is required.
The trail rises 1500 feet from the valley (think 150 flights of stairs), and we'll hike approximately 5-6 miles round trip.
Be prepared by reviewing the map and routes on the
National Park Website.
Paper maps are typically available at the visitor center just before the trailhead.
As a precaution, make sure you download the
offline version if you rely on phone maps, cell service is not guaranteed.
If you join us come prepared with:
* Good boots/socks,
* Snacks and a picnic lunch,
* Plenty of water (2 Litres or more).
* Raingear - the mornings can be cool and misty
* Sunhat and sunscreen - the afternoons can be bright sunshine and hot.
* Trekking poles (they are optional but can be useful in saving your knees on steep descents)
* Bring wide angle lenses for the beautiful landscape,
* A Long lens for close-ups of the birds
* A tripod/gimbal for stabilized photographing of the birds.
* Binoculars or a spotting scope
* Comfortable backpack for camera and gear
