Hands On Dog Photography

Artful Dog Photography is not easy! Join Barbara Brady-Smith for an exciting all-day workshop on March 12, 2020. You will be learning and practicing the skills needed to capture beautiful images of dogs that clients will be proud to display.
You will learn:
How to prepare for a session with a dog
Camera and lens considerations
Tips and tricks for successful posing and attention getting
How to use studio lighting with dogs
How to handle dogs big and small and sessions with multiple dogs
How to recognize that a dog has had enough
How to successfully incorporate pets with their people
If weather is cooperating, we will head outside so participants can practice capturing action and using reflectors and scrims.
All participants will have the opportunity to photograph a wide range of beautiful dogs and practice the tips and tricks they have learned. All dogs and models will be fully model released.
Barbara will also share her post processing short-cuts for leash removal, coat ‘fixing,’ and other tools she uses to convert beautiful portraits into fine art. Barbara regularly teaches Photoshop and Lightroom techniques, so you are sure to learn a lot!
Note that due to the extensive hands on experience, participation is limited to 12 students.
Barbara’s Biography:
Barbara Brady-Smith burst on the Pet Photography scene in 2011 and quickly established herself as a true artisan in this niche. Her animal photography can be seen in happy homes and on pet food product packaging, annual report covers and print advertising.
Much of her success she attributes to her deep appreciation for the joy animals bring into our lives. She actively shares this joy through photography and by volunteering with her two therapy dogs providing comfort to people of all ages. This emotional and rewarding work is now in a published book called “Hug Tails – Portraits of Therapy Pets.”
Barbara has been honored through all levels of PPA including 4 time International Print Competition Medalist, PPC Animal Photographer of the Year, PPC Environmental Photographer of the Year, PPC People’s Choice award, Kodak award and many local association awards. She holds her Master of Photography and Craftsman degrees and is a Certified Professional Photographer. Her bird and equinephotography has been displayed in local art galleries. She was honored with a PPA magazine cover photo in 2018.
A gifted speaker and educator, Barbara loves to share her enthusiasm for animals and photography. She mentors other pet photographers and teaches workshops on pet and horse photography, Lightroom and Photoshop. Barbara’s business skills are top notch too. After earning her MBA at Berkeley, she enjoyed a successful career as a Bank Executive and now uses many of the same management and customer service skills as a small business owner.
